Poetry
Poetry is at the heart of all my writing. It
informs the use of words, whether I’m writing prose or webcopy. I have
three chapbooks to my credit, What I Learned in Kansas,
published in 2010 by Port Yonder Press, Benthos, published in 1998 by
Wolfsong Publications, and The Book of Ruth, a small booklet
self-published in 1997, dedicated to Ruth Ebberts, a phenomenal poet
from Kansas and now deceased. While residing in Kansas, I
was the recipient of a Mini-Fellowship award for poetry from the Kansas
Arts Commission.
I have published poetry in The Penwood Review,
Empty Shoes Anthology, Verse Wisconsin, Echoes, Wisconsin Academy Review,
Verse and Vision Anthology, Earth’s Daughters,
Margie, Evangel, Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets’ Calendar, Red Cedar and others.
I have participated in several ekphrastic (art & poetry) projects around
the area.
A board member of
Pewaukee Area Arts Council, I
am the co-editor of the PAAC sponsored project, One Vision: A Fusion of
Art and Poetry, pairing poets and
artists for a collaborative creation. The project was expanded in
2011 to include interpretive dance, and included a performance at the Oconomowoc Arts Center. I am also a longtime member
of Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets (see below).
I have organized poetry readings in the community,
including an annual fundraiser for the local food pantry. In addition,
I have been a guest poet on Wisconsin Public Radio’s “Higher Ground”
program, and at other venues.
I am also a member of the newly formed
Grace
River Poets, a faith-based group with a mission to use poetry as an
outreach ministry to the community. We are currently booking programs;
please see our website.
